Saksham app, a smartphone application created to make voter registration
and electoral services easier for people with disabilities (PwDs), was released
by the Election Commission of India (ECI). By offering PwDs specialized
services, the app seeks to increase accessibility and inclusivity of the voting
process and ensure their active participation in the democratic process.
Important Saksham App Features for New Voter Registration: PwDs can use the app to
register as new voters by entering their name, residence, phone number, state,
district, and assembly constituency, among other necessary information.
Current Voter Services: By
supplying the EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card) number found on their voter
ID card, registered voters can make a request for electoral services.
Booth-Level Officer Visits
house: Following the submission of the registration or service request, a
Booth-Level Officer visits the PwD's house to finalize the required paperwork.
Features that make the app
accessible include text-to-speech functionality for those with hearing
impairments, voice assistance for visually impaired users, and features that

details about their voting place, such as its address, accessibility features,

Through the app, people with disabilities can submit complaints about any

Wheelchair and Transportation
Services: Using the app, PwDs can make requests for wheelchair support and
pick-up/drop locations on voting day.
