Prototype vehicle mounted ULV sprayer developed to control locust

To overcome the limitation of importing equipment, the Department of Agriculture, cooperation & farmers welfare (DAC &FW) has developed the prototype vehicle mounted ULV sprayer to control locust. Under Make in India initiative, has taken up the challenge to indigenously develop a vehicle-mounted ULV sprayer for locust control.

The successful trial of the sprayer conducted in Rajasthan, the trial conducted districts are Ajmer and Bikaner.

As per the Agriculture ministry, this becomes a major breakthrough as this will end the dependency on importing very important equipment for locust control.

The United Nations part of food and agriculture organization has congratulated India for becoming the first country to use drones in the world to control desert locust.

The Ministry of Agriculture said that, The united kingdom based M/s Micron Sprayer being the sole supplier of vehicles mounted sprayers so far to India. The government has been granted permission to place orders to purchase 60-micron air sprayers, of which 15 units received in February and the remaining 45 units expect to receive within a month.
