Sustainable Municipal Solid Waste Processing Facility developed by CMERI

Key Points:

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Processing Facility developed by the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). This facility is developed to maintain the cleaner environment and safe disposal of solid waste without contamination of Natural Resources.

The Ministry of Science & Technology said that this Municipal solid waste (MSW) facility has also created value products from the needless stuff.

Director of CSIR-CMERI Durgapur, Dr.Harish Hirani mentioned this issue in his keynote address at programme ‘KrishiJagran’.

Highlights:

·        MSW Processing facility equipped with disinfection potential to break the COVID chain through UV-C lights and hot-air convection methods.

·        This facility has a unique feature for separating different categories of wastes includes masks, sanitary napkins.

·        The MSW facility has an added advantage that it will also work using Solar energy.

·        CSIR-CMERI developed “Decentralised Waste Management technology” for the drastic reduction of expenditure related to Transportation Logistics.

·        Uses the plasma arc for solid waste disposal (converts wastes into plasma state).
