IRNSS has joined the World Wide Radio Navigation System (WWRNS)

Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) has been selected to be a part of the World Wide Radio Navigation System (WWRNS) for operation by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in the region of Indian Ocean. Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System will now be used by merchant vessels to receive information.

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime approved the selection of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System as a part of the World-Wide Radio Navigation System. This is seen as an important achievement of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW).

It is reported that the Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue [NCSR] of  the International Maritime Organization recommended the IRNSS to be a part of the World-Wide Radio Navigation System. Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System is a navigation satellite system developed by India to work independently in helping the ships to navigate in the Indian Ocean Region.
