Ø Gucchi Mushroom grown in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district has been sought for the Geographical Indication(GI).
Ø It has been the costliest mushroom in the world,priced at 20,000 a kg.
Ø Gucchi mushroom is a fungus belonging to the family Morchellaceae and they are in pale colour with large ridges and pits on their cap.
Ø Gucchi mushroom cannot be cultivated commercially because they grow on logs of decaying wood, humus soil and leaves.
Ø So, they only grow in conifer forests of Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. The process of collection this mushroom is more tedious and so it is costlier.
Ø It is rich in copper, potassium,Vitamin-D and also rich in antioxidants.
