Every 9th October is celebrated as the world post office day. Commemorating to this day, the posts in many countries introduce/promote new postal products and services and also the awards will be conferred to the postal employees who contributed good service.
Objective of celebrating this day:
The day aims to create awareness to people and business about the role of postal sector in their everyday lives. Additionally, the day also create awareness of their Post’s role and activities among the public and media on a national scale.
By this day, the postal services also mark its contribution towards the social and economic development of countries.
History behind the celebration:
To mark the history and anniversary of the established Universal Postal Union in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland, the day is celebrated. Therefore in 1969, the UPU Congress held a meeting at Tokyo, Japan and declared the day as world post office day.
So, to celebrate and create awareness about the postal services to public, more than 150 World countries had jointly participated in the annual celebrations on that day.
