Goodenough, Whittingham, Yoshino won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry


For the year 2019, the Nobel prize for Chemistry was awarded to John B. Goodenough, M. Stanley Whittingham, and Akira Yoshino.

This announcement was made by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and this award was awarded for the development of lithium-ion batteries. Their invention laid the foundation of a wireless, fossil fuel-free society.

The advantages of Li-ion batteries: 

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries that developed have revolutionized the world of technology.

It is reported that these batteries entered into the market in 1991.  

The use of these batteries is to power various day-to-day products such as smartphones, laptops and even electric vehicles.

Awards to Awardees:
1) John B. Goodenough - works at the University of Texas in the US. 
2) M. Stanley Whittingham – works as a professor at Binghamton University in the US. 
3) Akira Yoshino- works as a professor at Meijo University in Japan.
