BrahMos supersonic cruise missile test-fired from Indian Navy Ship (INS) Chennai

Key Points:

On October 18, 2020 Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully fired BrahMos missile from an indigenously built stealth destroyer of Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea. This supersonic cruise missile has been developed and produced by India and Russia.

The missile hit the target successfully after performing tangled manoeuvres, said by Ministry of defence (MDo).

Top speed of the missile is Mach 2.8 which is nearly 3 times the speed of sound. BrahMos missile can hit the targets 400 km away.

The Chairperson of DRDO, Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated scientists and all other personnel of DRDO, BrahMos, Indian Navy and the industry. He also stated that this missile will create a lethal platform for Armed forces.

Other missiles recently tested by India in the last two months include a new version of the nuclear-capable hypersonic Shaurya missile with a range of 750 km and the anti-radiation missile.
