PM launches 2,000 railway infra projects:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently unveiled over 2,000 railway infrastructure projects valued at around ₹41,000 crore.

Project Details:

During the launch, the Prime Minister initiated 554 station redevelopment projects under the 'Amrit Bharat' station scheme, aimed at revitalizing key railway stations nationwide across 27 States. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for 1,500 road overbridges and underpasses. Inaugurating the Gomtinagar station in Uttar Pradesh, the redevelopment of the station occurred at an estimated cost of ₹385 crore. The 553 station redevelopment projects are anticipated to cost nearly ₹19,000 crore, while other infrastructure endeavors, such as constructing flyovers and underpasses, are estimated at ₹21,520 crore.

Expansion Plans:

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that 5,000 km of new tracks will be added in FY24, supplementing the 31,000 km added over the past decade. Transitioning from track additions at a rate of 4 kilometers a day during 2004-14, the current pace has surged to 15 kilometers a day. Nearly 41,000 km of tracks have been electrified, and the station redevelopment projects are slated for completion over a three-year period.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme:

The Amrit Bharat Station scheme envisages the long-term enhancement of stations, encompassing improved accessibility, waiting areas, restroom facilities, lift and escalator installations, cleanliness, complimentary Wi-Fi, local product kiosks under initiatives like 'One Station One Product', enhanced passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, designated spaces for business meetings, landscaping, and catering services. The scheme targets the modernization of 1,275 stations across the Indian Railway system, focusing on upgrading station structures, integrating them with surrounding urban areas, facilitating multimodal connectivity, to cater to people with disabilities, implementing environmentally friendly solutions, introducing tracks without ballast, and integrating 'Roof Plazas'.
