FLW 2024, which stands for Financial Literacy Week 2024
India’s central bank, the
Reserve Bank of India (RBI), is organizing Financial
Literacy Week (FLW) 2024, scheduled from February 26 to March 1, 2024.Theme
of this year is "Make a Right Start."
Aim:
The RBI emphasizes financial inclusion and education as
integral aspects of its developmental agenda. It has made extensive literature
available in 13 languages on its website for banks and stakeholders to access
and utilize. The initiative aims to raise awareness about financial products
and services, promote good financial practices, encourage digital adoption, and
ensure consumer protection.
Financial Literacy Ideathon:
RBI has launched a Financial Literacy Ideathon for
postgraduate students currently enrolled in recognized educational
institutions. Participants are tasked with devising innovative strategies to
promote financial literacy among young adults, empowering them to make informed
financial decisions. The theme for submissions is “Money Matters for Young
Adults: Rethinking Outreach Strategies”.
Objective:
The goal is to highlight the benefits of instilling
financial discipline from an early age, covering topics like saving, budgeting,
compounding, basic banking, and online security.
Prizes:
The first prize winner will be awarded ₹1 lakh, the second
prize winner will receive ₹75,000, and the third prize winner will get ₹50,000
RBI’s Financial Literacy Initiatives:
The RBI website features a dedicated section on Financial
Education in multiple languages, offering resources such as comic books,
videos, financial planning tips, and games. It also facilitates access to the
Banking Ombudsman Scheme. Additionally, the National Centre for Financial Education
(NCFE), established by all financial sector regulators, conducts financial
education programs and develops educational content to enhance financial
literacy nationwide.
2023 Edition:
During the 2023 Financial Literacy Week, held between February 13 and 17, the theme was "Good Financial Behaviour, Your Saviour." It stressed the importance of saving, planning, budgeting, and using digital financial services wisely, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Financial Education: 2020-2025.
