developed by the Indian Space Research

Prime Minister Modi also officially recognized the first
four Indian astronaut candidates for the Gaganyaan mission while overseeing the
ambitious inaugural human spaceflight program set for 2027.
Unveiling New Space Assets:
The Prime Minister inaugurated ISRO's PSLV rocket
integration facility, enhancing launch capabilities, a semi-cryogenic engine
testing complex to strengthen indigenous propulsion capabilities, and a
trisonic wind tunnel to facilitate cutting-edge rocket designs. These
facilities, developed at a combined cost of about ₹1,800 crore, are expected to
enhance the country's technological self-reliance.
Announcement of India's First Astronaut Team:
While on the visit, Prime Minister Modi officially revealed
the identities of four Indian Air Force test pilots chosen for rapid Gaganyaan
program training.
They were chosen from
thousands of candidates by the Indian
Air Force (IAF) and ISRO after rigorous selection trials similar to those
conducted by NASA, assessing fitness, behavior, and other critical parameters.
Bestowing Astronaut Pin Names:
The Prime Minister also presented customized astronaut pin
insignia to Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Prathap, Ajit Krishnan, and
Shubhanshu Shukla, symbolically recognizing their elite astronaut status and
highlighting their role in leading India's maiden manned space mission.
Assessment of Milestone Mission Progress:
Modi received updates from the ISRO Chairman on the
comprehensive preparations for the landmark Gaganyaan mission. These
preparations include the development of a human-rated launch vehicle, crew
escape system, orbital module, spacesuits, life support systems, as well as
associated ground infrastructure and astronaut-centric facilities.
Vision for Future Space Leadership:
Detailing his vision for India's emergence as a space power by 2047, the Prime Minister emphasized goals such as manned missions to the moon using indigenous rockets, establishing India's own space station for exploration in the coming decades, and significantly increasing satellite launch capacities and space sector startups.
