EXERCISE EKUVERIN
· This Joint Military Exercise was held between India and Maldives on December 06, 2021.
· In Dhivehi Language, Ekuverin means ‘Friends’. This Indo-Aryan language is spoken in India, Maldives and Lakshadweep islands.
· Since 2008, the Ekuverin exercise is being conducted between India and Maldives.
· In 2018, this exercise was held in Maldives and 2019 meeting was held in Pune.
2021 EXERCISE
· This 2021 exercise was held in Maldives.
· The main focus of the exercise is to enhance their inter-operability from their armed forces.
· It also focused on other matters such as counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.
· This exercise also conducted games and other cultural activities which help to understand one’s culture to other.
NEED OF THE EXERCISE
· Providing Internal and External security to the countries which situated around the Indian Ocean is the main aim of the India’ Policy of Indian Ocean.
· The Countries which centred around Indian Ocean are, Mauritius, Maldives, Seychelles and Sri Lanka.
· So this exercise will improve the security of the Indian Ocean Region and will reduce the Piracy.
· The Indian force will also helps to other countries when they are in a disaster like situations.
· And this programme will also improves the political stability of the Indian Ocean region.
