Prime
Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh at the
virtual opening ceremony of 'Viksit Bharat, Northeast Viksit' event in Itanagar
Still a major infrastructure project in Nanchal Sela Tunnel Pradesh has been
unveiled. The tunnel, proposed to be constructed at an
altitude of 13,000 feet above sea level, is expected to facilitate
all-weather connectivity to the important Tawang region and improve movement of
troops within the border area.
Key
features of Shara Tunnel:
Shara
Tunnel was built at a cost of Rs 825 million and is the world's longest
two-lane road at high altitude. Constructed by the Border Road Organization
(BRO), this road connects Tezpur in Assam to Sikhamun district in Arunachal
Pradesh. Despite the rugged terrain and bad weather conditions, the project was
completed in five years. The tunnel was built using the new Austrian tunneling
method and has a state-of-the-art security system. It will improve the quality
of transportation in the region and is the most important transportation in the
country.
The main
concept of the Sala Tunnel:
The Army has
confirmed that the Sala Tunnel will facilitate the transportation of troops and
supplies to many projects along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
This development is expected to improve the readiness of the army and support
the growth of the economy at the borders.
Role of
BRO in border development:
Border Road
Organization (BRO) has given a strong impetus to infrastructure development
along the border area. BRO has achieved remarkable results in the last three
years and has completed 330 infrastructure projects at a total cost of Rs 8.737
billion.
Chinese
attack:
China
launched an attack against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to
Arunachal Pradesh, where he inaugurated the important project Sierra Hole.
China claims Arunachal Pradesh belongs to southern Tibet and claims that
India's actions are only "exacerbating the border issue". Chinese
Foreign Minister Wang Wenbin reiterated China's position, saying that it does
not recognize Arunachal Pradesh as part of India and is against India's
unsustainable development in southern Tibet.
India's
response:
India reiterates that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of its territory and rejects any attempt to change this fact by creating an "invented" name. This is not the first time China has opposed the visit of an Indian leader to Arunachal Pradesh.
