Dwarka Expressway:

Dwarka Expressway:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, marking a major milestone in India's highway development. Built at a cost of 4,100 billion rupees, the 19 km line is part of India's first-of-its-kind 8-lane highway initiative to improve traffic flow and ease congestion on National Highway (NH) - 48 between Delhi and Gurugram.

Detailed information about the Haryana section

The new construction of Dwarka Expressway consists of two parts:

10.2 km long section from Delhi-Haryana border to the entire Pasai Railway - Over Bridge ( ROB)

The 8.7-kilometer stretch extending from Basai Rail-over-Bridge (ROB) to Kherki Daula.

Today, Direct connection has been established between Delhi Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and Gurugram Bypass to facilitate transportation.

Dwarka Expressway Overview

The total cost of Dwarka Expressway is Rs 9,000 Million and is divided into four sections:

The first two sections, covering 10 km, are located in Delhi

The remaining two sections are approximately 19 km long and located in Gurgaon.

Starting from Shiv Murti near Mahipalpur on the Delhi-Gurgaon highway, crossing the Gurgaon border at Dwarka Sector 21 in Basai, then going to near Kherki Daula on the National Highway. This will be a 14-lane expressway with access control, the first of its kind in India.

Special features and challenges

Dwarka Expressway will have four multi-level challenges including tunnels or underpasses, surface sections, elevated overpasses and flyovers above the original flyovers. More importantly, it will build India's first 4 km long 8-lane tunnel near Indira Gandhi International Airport. This pit, known as the "deep hole", was built due to limitations imposed by the construction of high-rise structures near the airport.

The highway construction will include a two-lane crossing under existing NH Road 48 along with an elevated roadway.

Solutions to traffic accidents and pollution

NH 48 is used by more than 3 million vehicles every day and causes traffic accidents and traffic pollution in the region between Delhi and NCR. Dwarka Expressway Project aims to alleviate these problems and improve connectivity, thereby improving the overall quality of life of residents.

Construction Timeline and Challenges

As of 2018, the construction of Dwarka Expressway was planned for 2021. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the deadline for the job was extended. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced that the entire project will be completed by August this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Haryana section of Dwarka Expressway to strengthen connectivity and reduce traffic congestion on the Delhi-Gurgaon route. As India continues to invest in innovation, projects like the Dwarka Expressway will play a key role in driving economic growth and improving the lives of its citizens.
