About Exam

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) or otherwise called as IAS Exam, which is a nation level competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. This examination is conducated for recruiting eligible candidates to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).

This exam is also simply referred to as the UPSC examination. It is conducted in three phases –

Preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II also popularly known as CSAT or Civil Service Aptitude Test).

Main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay) type, in which two papers are qualifying and only marks of seven are counted.

Fianl round exam is the personality test (interview).

UPSC CSE 2019 Eligibility:

Before applying to the exam, the applicants must ensure that they fulfil the following

Eligibility requirements to further proceed to the next level. The various criteria are as stated below:

For IAS and IPS, applicants must be a citizen of India.

Other services require candidates to be either,

  • 1. Citizen of India
  • 2. Subject of Nepal
  • 3. Subject of Bhutan
  • Tibetan immigrant who came to India to settle permanently before January 1, 1962.
  • An Indian origin migrant from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam who came to India to settle permanently

The lower age limit for IAS Exam 2019 is 21 years as on August 1, 2019,

While the upper age limit is 32 years.

There is also upper age relaxation for reserved category candidates, which is as follows:

SC/ST - Up to 5 years
OBC Up to 3 years
Defense Services Personnel disabled in operations during hostilities Up to 3 years
Ex-servicemen Up to 5 years
ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service Up to 5 years
PwD candidates Up to 10 years
Domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir from January 1, 1980, to December 31, 1989 Up to 5 years

Educational Qualification of UPSC CSE 2019:

  • Must be a graduate (or)
  • Undergraduate in last year, last semester can apply (or)
  • American degrees valid but have to get equivalent certificate from AIU (or)
  • Distance education degree valid- IF recognized by UGC/AICTE/any Law (or)
  • MBBS must have completed internship before UPSC Interview-stage.

Physically Handicapped /disabled candidates belonging to General category will get the benefit of 9 attempts.

UPSC CSE 2019 Vacancies:

  • The number of vacancies to be filled on the result of the UPSC CSE 2019 is expected to be about 896.
  • This reported number is stated that it is about 100 vacancies higher than the number of reported vacancies in 2018. In 2018, there were only 782 Vacancies for CSE and 110 Vacancies for IFOS.
  • The vacancies can increase, once additional data becomes available in the coming months.

UPSC CSE 2019 Application Form:

Candidates who have qualified the preliminary exam are required to register again for IAS Main examination by filling Detailed Application Form (DAF) from August 1 till August 16, 2019 at the official website. The application process mainly consists of the following steps which are given below:

  • Go to the official website of UPSC i.e. (upsc.gov.in)
  • Fill the basic application details using the UPSC CSE online 2019 link present on the website.
  • Go through the notification carefully. Once the above- mentioned step is completed, your Registration ID and Password will be sent to your registered mobile phone and email id.
  • Login again using your credentials to fill the DAF.
  • Candidates have to fill their Personal, Educational, Parental and Employment details.
  • You can make changes before the final submission.
  • However, no changes would be possible after the final submission, hence fill DAF very carefully.
  • Finally, the candidates should proceed for the application fee payment. You can make UPSC CSE 2019 application fee through various modes namely Credit/ Debit card, Net banking, Cash Card & Wallet and IMPS. You can also download and take a print out of the application for future use. Only after the application fee payment is done by an applicant, the online application form of the candidates will be accepted by the exam board.

UPSC CSE 2019 Application Fee:

Candidates must note that the application fee once paid will not be refunded. Here the application fee can be paid either online nor offline.

  • The application fee for the IAS 2019 examination is Rs. 100/- SC / ST / Female / Ex-Servicemen Candidates are exempted from paying the application fee

Mode of Payment

  • Online mode for payment of application fee

The candidates can sue the Debit card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking details to remit the application fee.

  • Offline mode for payment of application fee

The application fee for the UPSC IAS 2019 examination can also be paid offline. For paying the offline fee the candidates have to generate the payslip while filling the part II of the application form.

UPSC CSE 2019 Admit Card:

After registering successfully, UPSC will release admit card of UPSC CSE 2019 for the registered candidates. The admit card for IAS Main Exam has been released on August 31, 2019. Candidates can download their admit cards with the registered roll number and the password.

IAS Exam 2019 consists of 3 stages namely, Preliminary, Main and Personal Interview. Each exam has a different pattern and different number of questions.

  • Preliminary exam in IAS Exam 2019 is just a screening test to shortlist the candidates for the further selection process.
  • The candidates who qualify Prelims are required to re-register for IAS Main 2019 exam which is the real qualifying in nature.
  • Further, selected candidates from the above 2 rounds will appear for the personal interview round.

UPSC CSE 20119 Syllabus:

IAS Syllabus is determined by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) each year. Each stage in the IAS exam has a different syllabus.
